Blue Jays Offseason Rumours – October 29, 2012

It’s that time again, offseason rumour mill!  I will try to update this as much as possible and still hope to get back to a more regular posting schedule.  Look for some free agency primers by position/need in the next few weeks!  Enjoy, comment and share these links!

-As per MLB trade rumours:

The Angels have explored the possibility of trading Dan Haren and Ervin Santana before Wednesday, the date on which option decisions are due, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. The Angels are not expected to exercise Haren’s $15.5MM option or Santana’s $13MM option.

A rival executive suggested to Heyman that it could be difficult to trade the pitchers given their disappointing performances in 2012. GM Jerry Dipoto wanted to trade Santana last winter, but owner Arte Moreno wanted to keep him, according to Heyman.

I have to think that any pitcher on the market that becomes available will be linked to the Blue Jays given the teams desperate need for some depth in the rotation.  While neither of these names are extremely attractive, if the price was right (aka a salary dump) I might look a little deeper.

-As per MLB trade rumours:

Now that they have sent John Farrell to Boston, the Blue Jays are looking for a new manager. In an article at the Globe and Mail, Jeff Blair suggests this might be “the most important managerial hire in club history.” Blair argues that the Blue Jays should consider former catchers such as Sandy Alomar Jr. and Don Wakamatsu. Here are the latest Blue Jays-related links…

  • The Blue Jays obtained permission from the Diamondbacks to speak to third base coach Matt Williams about their managerial opening, Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com reports (on Twitter). Williams has also drawn interest from the Rockies.
  • Free agent starters Ryan Dempster and Edwin Jackson are targets for Toronto, Blair reports. Either right-hander would provide the Blue Jays with some certainty in the middle of a rotation that struggled mightily in 2012 due to injuries and poor performances. Free agents can only sign with their own teams until Saturday.

I would definitely like to see the Blue Jays kick tires on Edwin Jackson and Ryan Dempster.  I’d be more inclined to say EJax could handle the AL East but Dempster did hold his own in the hot summer of Texas in that brutal ballpark during his short stay.

As a site owner. Do you think like having a site or even blog site is sensible?
Also how would you get visitors to check out your blog?

I like Edwin Jackson , dempster not so much. I can’t help but have low expectations of what the jays end up with for SP’s this offseason. They are the most expensive players to acquire either in trade or the FA market and I think we all know where that leaves AA and his welfare cheque from Rogers… I am hoping though that they do up payroll a significant enough amount to atleast sign or trade for a #2 type guy at the bare minimum and possibly two if beeston and AA can wring that much out of their owners pockets. But in reality it’s probably going to be the lesser end of the talent pool. :(

I wish I didn’t agree, but how can I argue that point given the recent facts?

I am hopeful we can land a guy like EJax in ADDITION to a better arm, but that is probably a pipe dream. I am going into the offseason with low expectations but high hopes.

I am hopeful for a surprise basically… The AL East is wide open man.
