Hitters:
AAA (C) Travis D’Arnaud, 1-5, .278, 2b (7)

Pitchers:
MLB (SP) Drew Hutchison, 6 ip, 7 h, 5 er, 2 bb – 5 k; started game with four strikeouts
Bonus:
AA (SP) Trevor Bauer, 5.2 ip, 8 h, 5 er, 3 bb – 9 k, 2.36
despite his ugly ERA, hutchison’s MLB peripherals look promising:
-4.47 FIP and 4.14 xFIP
-walk (3.31) and strikeout (6.06) rate’s that are roughly comparable to Romero’s (and Hutch’s walk rate will probably improve)
-a relatively high BABIP .339 and a low strand rate 59.5% which should even out.
-in 3 starts Fangraphs has him at .1 WAR which is better than Morrow and Alvarez have done in 5.
-also his GB rate 40% seems way low. i havent seen his minor league ratio but ive read the scouting reports that remark on his ability to induce ground balls.
-unfortunately i havent yet had the chance to see Hutch pitch nor have I explored the Pitch FX data so im not sure if location has been a problem so id be eager to hear what you thought!
Great analysis, exactly the stats and ratios I would look at. I like Hitch overall but see him as a mid rotation guy overall given his good but not great stuff. Awesome control, about a hit per inning, ground balls and an average strikeout rate seems likely. A 4.00/1.35 guy in the AL east isn’t terrible.
